150 million animals are being killed for food around the world everyday. That means 56 billion land animals are being killed per year in the U.S alone. Around 9 billion chickens hatch and grow to an edible size and die from human consumption. Anywhere between 37 and 120 billion fish are killed on commercial farms with another 2.7 trillion caught and killed in the wild.
An estimated 7.3 billion wild fish are killed for food every day. That number includes some bycatch and feed fish. While it seems extraordinarily large, in reality, it may be even higher. The commercial fishing industry does not report bycatch numbers. The report total weight caught.
