That means 56 billion land animals are being killed per year in the U.S alone. Around 9 billion chickens hatch and grow to an edible size and die from human consumption. Anywhere between 37 and 120 billion fish are killed on commercial farms with another 2.7 trillion caught and killed in the wild.
